Some reminders, kids!
Our event is Thursday, Dec. 20th, from 6-7:30 pm in the commons here at the school. ALL are expected to be there! Also, reminders about what is due D18 / that same evening:
Today we showed off our efforts thus far for the Part III A or B and Part V. The remainder of class was spent working on your projects. I gave you preliminary grades on your assignments thus far. Keep working hard! Also, I gave out the last part of your PBL Project: Part IV, the Poster Board Assignment. Note that we are running of out time, with the PBL Event coming up soon, on Dec. 20th, from 6-7:30.
We introduced Part IIIA / B to you guys last time..see the side for more info! You'll either be creating a tangible to help represent your tour, or interview someone related to one of your sites, and then write up a reflection.
Also, today we began making plans for what sites you were going to highlight in your town tours! Some sites that I recommend checking out to get some ideas: www.tripadvisor.com - a good site to get some ideas of things people think are worth visiting in the area! (I've included Payson, UT as an example in the link...) www.tripbuzz.com - has some interesting suggestions / ideas. For more ideas, www.UtahValley360.com has some good info! www.yelp.com - good site for cuisine / food options The National Registry of Historic Places has a lot of good ideas for things you might point out. Note that many of these sites are private, and the people who own them may not want people poking around. Best to visit the site, talk to the owners, and ask if they would mind you pointing out their site! Also, a Google Map Tour can be a really cool way to explore a place. Here are a few examples: New York; New Orleans, etc. Below is an example that I made to show you what you might do! Today we discussed how students might go about conducting an interview (IIIA), and how they might use their Part IIB Assignment as a good opportunity to set up these interviews, or begin getting ideas for their tangible (if they choose that option). We’ll also discuss a few more Examples of Tours: SLC Downtown, etc.

About the Class:Utah's landscape is a beautiful as its history. This course is designed to help students understand the great state of Utah at a deeper level by reviewing the state’s early history, founding, and geography.
Starting with the earliest known natives, we’ll travel thru time to today's booming business economy. We will examine the relationship between people and their environment and the effect of geography on people and settlement. Archives
