Today we worked on our Ch. 3.4 "Southern Colonies" Jigsaw Mini Lesson assignment. Each of you got together with some classmates to create a mini-lesson / slideshow to teach us more about each of the colonies discussed in this section. This assignment will be presented to the class next time, D20, so make sure you finish it! Note: We also turned in our final political cartoon assignments today. Today you worked on your political cartoons, as assigned last time. We gave each other feedback, and I assigned you to improve your political cartoon for T1D19, when we will present / turn in our final cartoons. Today we looked at the Middle Colonies, like Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New York, etc., and learned more about how and why they were founded, comparing them with the New England Colonies. Then, the remainder of class was used to finish your political cartoons (final due T1D19). See below for more info, notes, etc:
Today we finished our discussion started last time about the pilgrims, Puritans, and others who settled in New England, along with the conflicts they had with the Native Americans.
The rest of the time was yours to work on your political cartoons. We looked at your ideas, as well as several more examples, to help get you inspired. We will be reviewing these on T1D17, and giving you a chance to fix them up before finally presenting them before the class afterwards. Otherwise, enjoy the weekend! Today we began talking about the Mayflower, and the Pilgrims, who came to the New World for some different reasons than their Jamestown counterparts (religious reasons). We read the Mayflower Compact, and talked about its impact, as well as began interpreting political cartoons. See below for class notes, etc.:
